A walk through time, it started with the Basques in the Pyrenees, where they came from, when and their language is still a mystery. Three days ago we passed through an area whose earlier people were the Maragatos, who like the Basque, their origin is uncertain, maybe they were originally Phoenicians or Berbers? Along the Way we have walked on early Roman roads, walked through a couple of villages that were still living in earthen homes like the tombs of the Etruscans of Italy. Many different people have walled these same pathways, and for the past 1200 years many different people have and are the Peregrinos (Pilgrims). Today’s Spain is only a thin veneer of time in the overall history of the country crossed by the way. A few days ago.we walked across a long stone bridge into the village of Hospital de Orbigo, they have a jousting field by the bridge, as knights of the Crusades were all through here, this may have been the Camelot of the past. Another mystery of the way, we start the day with excellent top of the line hiking boots, but at end of the day it seems like we are unlacing two heavy cement blocks, what happened to the nice boots?
